Network Cable Jack Tester

When I recently moved into my new home, I thought I was set. The house came prewired with all the miles of cat5 cable I could ever need. I had my computer and cable router upstairs, and my Xbox 360 downstairs. I didn’t feel like shelling out $100 for an wireless adapter (an adapter!), so a pre-cabled house was a great thing to have.

When I pulled the cover off my in-wall switch, I realized I had a bit of a problem. The switch is a mess. Nothing is labled and there are actually two panels with patch cables going every-which-way inbetween them. The previous owner either knew exactly what he was doing or had no clue, but it is going to take some sorting out nonetheless. I headed down to Fry’s and they had a networking kit with a live link checker for $120. Bleh. Way too much for what I needed.

Glad to see my buddies at ThinkGeek had exactly what I need want need. I’m ordering their link checker this weekend so I can once again play Gears of War on Live! (I have barely been able to survive with out it).

10 Questions Left UNanswered by LOST

QUESTIONS THAT LOST LEFT UNANSWERED:

In my first post, I talked about the closure that the LOST producers gave us in 10 Questions That LOST Answered. The writing has been fantastic in that they gave us a 10 questions but they left us hanging on a lot of limbs. Some of these are from the past, and some are new as of last nights episode.

  1. Who fucking died? The casket and obituary in Jack’s flash forward has everyone asking who died. We know it’s someone that Jack would consider neither friend nor family, but still respect enough to show up to the funeral. We know that Jack attempts suicide after finding out about their death. We know it happened in LA. We know that Kate had no desire to attend the funeral. We know that whoever it is doesn’t have many friends in the future (although this isn’t saying much because after 90+ days on psycho island I wouldn’t be surprised if any of the survivors become recluse and alienate everyone in their lives). So here’s who I think are the candidates:
    1. Sawyer. I doubt it is Sawyer. But I bet the writers want us to think it so we’re suprised when it’s not. Kate’s discussion with Jack doesn’t really help that theory much.
    2. Sayid. I’d think that Jack would consider him at least a friend, but we don’t know how much time or distance has passed since the island.
    3. Locke. Again, this is a more obvious choice. So I’d rather not think it was him.
    4. Ben. Think about it. If years passed, and Ben somehow found his way back to mainland, Jack would be the type of person to pay his last regards to a formidable enemy. Also, it would make sense that Jack would want to try to kill himself after the news that Ben died. A big part of Jack’s life was The Island. Ben represents The Island. If Ben died, a large chapter of Jack’s life has just closed and Jack doesn’t think he can cope with it.
    5. Juliet. Jack has never been able to stay in a relationship. If things turned nasty between him and Juliet, he’d probably consider her “neither friend nor family”. As for the no show at the funeral, she created many enemies on the island and it wouldn’t be surprising if she continued walking that path. When Jack asked Kate about the funeral and said “I thought you’d be there”, Kate’s response was “Why would I?”.
    6. Michael. He betrayed his friends for a chance to escape the island. This left his “friends” obviously bitter.
  2. What’s up with Jack’s Dad? If that IS Future Jack, then why is saying stuff like “Call upstairs and talk to my Father. If I am drunker than he is, you can fire me!” and the prescription is from his Father’s office and not his. Although the prescription was a fake, he still made a scene of it. We also know that Jack had seen apparitions of his dad on the island in the past. Did the island resurrect his father? Was he never really dead? Is this another version of his dad? Perhaps one from a parallel universe? And who’s baby is Sarah pregnant with? She left Jack for his Dad, is that his half-brother (if that’s what you’d call it)?
  3. Who’s on the boat? If it’s not Penelope’s boat, then who is trying to find the island? My theory is it is the Hanso Foundation. Ben killed off the rest of the Dharma Initiative and formed an alliance with the others. He then jammed radio frequencies out and hijacked the only way onto the island. Hanso knows about the island, but if they lose their only way onto it, they don’t know how to get there. We know that the Earth’s magnetic field was disrupted when the hatch exploded. Penelope saw the EMP as a blip then magnetic field, we can assume others who were looking for the island did too.
  4. Speaking of Penelope…is she sending help? She knows where they are, she has an satellite communication feed that is open. If she can pinpoint the location of the originating signal, she’ll make the journey with her daddy’s money for sure. She’s against the Hanso foundation, so this would make for an intersting conflict if two groups of outsiders make their way to the island.
  5. Why the hell is Hurley still fat? OK, c’mon now guys. This isn’t a joke anymore.
  6. How far into the future was that Flashback? Are we talking years after the series here, or is it as early as next season? When do they get off the island? Is that the climax to the series or are we going to see a major twist here? We know that Jack has made dozens of transoceanic flights since his return, but does that indicate years of travel or just a few months of hysteria?
  7. Is Kate still wanted? Wasn’t there an international manhunt after Kate? Yeah, the agent that was after her died in the plane crash, but that doesn’t mean her case is closed. How is she walking around L.A. so freely when she couldn’t stay 5 feet in front of the secret service across international waters? Did she get a pardon? Did her mom come to her senses?
  8. Speaking of Kate…who’s she with? If not Jack, who’d she end up with after the island? When she talks with Jack, she says she has to get home to “him”. Who the fuck is “him”?! It would be almost too easy to believe it is Sawyer. Perhaps she hooked up with Sayid? We all know he likes the white meat. Maybe she falls for Hurley. It said that millions and millions of dollars helps make you look slimmer. Or…
  9. Still speaking of Kate…is she pregnant? Maybe returning “home to him” could mean that she has to get home to her son. On the island, the men produce five times as much sperm. She did the dirty with Sawyer a couple of times, and the series isn’t over.
  10. Is this all a parallel universe? That’s the big question. Locke’s dad was saying they were dead, and this is hell. The parachute lady said that all the passengers were dead when they found the wreckage. We see appearances of otherwise dead people all the time. There’s two Walts. Boone keeps making cameos. Jacob is a phantom. Locke seems to have accepted whatever his fate is. Think about it: two universes, two planes, crossing the dimensions in an explosion. Sound familiar? Donnie Darko anyone?

SO WHAT THE HELL AM I GOING TO DO UNTIL FEB 08?

Last summer they left us with an alternate reality game involving TV commercials, websites, and phone calls to take up our time. I didn’t care to participate because quite frankly the time commitment was too much and the potential reward payout (which was just more information) really wasn’t all that enticing. Besides, that’s what wikipidea is for! DAMN I wish there was a game this off-season to tide us over. I can’t get enough of it. Perhaps there is a game out there, or perhaps more clues will be released during the off months. One thing they know is they left people quenching for information.

So what will I be doing this next summer 9 months? I’ll be watching my Season 1 and 2 DVDs and extras for clues that they filled in with Season 3. It will be interesting to recourse some of my favorite LOST moments to see how well they tied the three seasons together so far. We know for a fact that they already have a series ender in mind, and they knew the outcome of the Oceanic 815 survivors from the beginning. Perhaps, knowing what I know now with Season 3 being over, I can get even more clues to the future of LOST.

The future of this series has become very exciting. With the flash forwards they are doing now, and the flash backs from the past, it will be interesting to see how the do eventually bring the two loose ends of this giant rope together.

10 Questions Answered by LOST

SPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t figured out that there might be spoilers about the most talked about show on the Internet the day after the most-anticipated season finale ever, log off now. No, I don’t mean go to a different webpage. I mean turn off your computer and walk away. You don’t deserve internet access.

HOLY SHIT, LOST!

So I’m totally going fanboi over last nights Season Finale of LOST. Kudos to the writers, producers, directors and cast for the perfect execution of what a season finale should be! I’m finally excited again about LOST!!!

I don’t even know where to begin on my whole take on things. Let’s start with the questions answered:

QUESTIONS ANSWERED

  1. Jack loves everybody. He kisses Juliet and tells Kate he loves her. We all know the (sexual?) frustration that exists behind Jack and Locke, and Jack and Sawyer. It’s time they kissed and made up already. I wouldn’t be surprised if the five of them find themselves in a drunken orgy after a night of whisky, Kumbaya, and nude volleyball on the beach. Locke will be the fifth wheel and wondering why he’s always holding the feet.
  2. Sawyer gets over his identity crisis. His previous manhunt excursions have finally sunken in. He starts calling people by their proper name and doesn’t think twice about killing off a main supporting character. With this new self-awareness, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Sawyer rain down like Rambo on Othersville next season.
  3. The survivors do eventually get of the island. I think (see my next post). With a flash forward to the future, we see a usin’-n-abusin’ Future Jack all hopped up on Oxycotin. His dialogue with Future Kate reveals that they have a full recollection of the whole island and everything that happened. Jack is even more “lost” now without his island than he was on the island, and longs to return to LOST. Is this a very accurate painting for what’s in store for Matthew Fox? While his career advance beyond that of “Jack”? Or is he the next Mark Hamill? Hmm…
  4. Walt (where’s Michael?) is still very much part of the series. After their departure in Season 1, everyone has wondered if they were making a comeback. We know that Walt, in some form, appeared before Locke during this episode. He still has a role, but still not sure what it is.
  5. Alex discovers her mom is Danielle.
  6. Hurley gets to be a bad ass for once. Loved the VW GTA!
  7. Charlie doesn’t have to worry about dying anymore. RIP lil’ buddy, your character was often the right dose of British sarcasm and comedy when The Island was becoming a little too anal retentive (the series wouldn’t have survived past Season 2 without you).
  8. Pennelope discovers Desmond is still alive.
  9. Ben gets his ass kicked. Well, this didn’t answer any questions, it was just purely awesome to see Jack play Fists of Fury against his nemesis’ jawbone.
  10. The writers know what they are doing. After tonights episode, I have no doubt that they have a clear vision of what’s ahead for the series.

TOO BE CONTINUED…

After writing this post I realized it was too long to be contained in one post. Stay tuned when I return with 10 Questions ASKED by LOST.

You’re Just a Faggy Girl And You Ain’t Got No Soul Power!

Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?I found this track on Pandora (my latest fix) and immediately fell in love with it. Check out these lyrics! “To me you’re just some faggy girl, And I need a lover with soul power!” (emphasis mine) How awesome is that!

Imagine a mix of the Flaming Lips and The New Pornographers and you’d get Of Montreal. Brilliant stuff! Yeah, this is definitely hitting my wish list.

Title: Bunny Ain’t No Kind Of Rider
Album: Hissing Fuana, Are You The Destroyer? (buy at amazon)
Artist: Of Montreal

Saw her at GO kissing girls, what a shock
I said you must be an artist
She muttered her reply
I was judging her friend as the DJ played a dead jam

No one wants to dance, they’re outside
Smoking cigarettes
Matthew was there, yes
He gave me the eye, saying: “It doesn’t kill to try”
Then blue lights all around

Eva, I’m sorry, but you will never have me
To me you’re just some faggy girl
And I need a lover with soul power
And you ain’t got no soul power

She lead me outside to the church with the swing
There I was her confessor
Her come on made me blush
Was her crush for the night?

Until I screamed:
“Stop! Hey! You must be aware I’m not alone
I’ve got a tigress back at home
And besides, you wouldn’t know what to do with me”

And under the blue lights you see them gossiping . . .

Remember those truly awesome Calvin and Hobbes snowman series, where Calvin makes decapitated and otherwise maimed snowmen? Well, if he were to make snowmen in college, I bet they’d look a little something like this:

Snowman Doggy Style

Snow Shocker

And there’s oh so much more displayed at the CollegeHumor “Snow Me the Money” snowman contest!

There’s a million one-liners that have generated from the Family Guy. I’d have to say some of my favorite come from Ollie Williams, the meteorologist. All of his lines are obvious statements about the current situation, which makes them so great! “It’s gonna rain!”

Xbox 360 Elite With More To Come

27. March 2007 Breaking News, Xbox 360, video games

I could totally get used to Microsoft making big official announcements at 9:00 PM PST. Good thing too, because they’re doing another one tomorrow!

Tonight, Microsoft let the hype out that there were going to be TWO official announcements for the Xbox 360 line.

The first one was made tonight, at the sweet time of 9:00 in the evening. It was the obvious announcement. Gamers, meet the 360 elite:Xbox 360 Elite

As for the second announcement, we’ll have to wait for a press video tomorrow. I’m in agreement with a comment by USArcher on the on10.net site:

- Based on the announcement yesterday of NetFlix founder being voted onto the Microsoft Board of Directors I would think it would have something NetFlix being integrated into XBox Live Video MarketPlace. That would vastly expand Microsoft’s current offerings. Hopefully that carries over to Zune and Media Center too.

All the pieces are lined up for Microsoft to make a big announcement like this. I don’t know if it will be Netflix, but Tivo recently stole what would have been a more obvious partnership for Redmond when they announced that Amazon’s Unbox service was going to be available on all the latest Tivos.

Other factors:
- At CES Microsoft announced that IPTV was coming to the living room via Media Center (aka known as Vista) and Xbox Live.

- The Xbox Live service went down for “necessary maintenance” lately. Hrm…

- It’s well known that Xbox 360 downloads are far superior to Apple TV and Tivo/Unbox. They’re offered in full 780p HDTV, the highest resolution downloads yet. (these statements are lacking some serious fact checking but its late and I’m tired. I do recall Gizmodo or Kotaku or Engadget or some fucking leprechaun in my dreamscape making the statement.)

- Gamers are getting comfortable with the PS3 and it’s price. I guess they realize that $600 isn’t so bad for a machine that has a Blu-Ray drive, Folding@Home, and a second-Second Life experience (Home). Microsoft needs a major victory to get their buzz back, and Halo 3 is still a long way in the distance.

- Wal-Mart, Blockbuster, and/or Netflix will do almost anything to get a leg up on iTunes and Amazon–even if it means tag-teaming with the house of Gates.

- Oh how I wish the announcement would just be a fucking simple stickpad already. I hate playing fighters with a dual analog control. PLEASE Microsoft, WE’RE BEGGING NOW! Give X-Arcade a 3rd Party license already! (or come out with your own) /RANT.

Whatever the news, be sure to check your radar at 9ish tomorrow. We’ll find out how sneaky Microsoft really is.

Jenna Fischer, aka Pam from The Office, bares it all on Wired Cover.

I just renewed my subscription for Wired Magazine today. Had to. You can’t receives something like this in the mail without immediately subscribing for more:

Jenna Fischer Nude Wire Magazine Cover

I heard the rumors, but didn’t really grasp what the attention was about until I saw a real copy of the magazine. At first, I was disappointed, thinking I got the “clothed” version of the issue. Luckily the “clothes” were simply a transparency on top of the actual image. Like a paper doll. I always wanted my own Jenna Fischer paper doll. Especially a nude one! Jenna Fischer is so hawt!

It is official. Jenna Fischer has replaced Natalie Portman and Charlize Theron as the universal geek internet poster babe. I predict that news of Jenna Fischer in a sci-fi flick will break by the end of the year.

So - Wired did you geeks the favor of sending you a picture of The Office’s Pam, nekkid. Time to reciprocate the favor by subscribing to this awesome mag.
